It’s a struggle to get a mechanical patent. In the good old days (see above graph), you wrote a patent, you filed a patent, and with maybe one or two rejections from the patent examiner, you got a patent. Not true these days. Today, you write the patent, you file the patent and then you go back and forth with the examiner until you either manage to convince she or he you deserve your patent, or you simply give up trying. It can be a long and expensive process.
It’s tough to get a patent these days. In my career as both an inventor and a registered US patent agent, I’ve seen the process for getting a patent become increasingly more difficult.
“Why is it taking so long to get my patent?” The answer may well be that you have a tough patent examiner.
